read. set. G R O W

create beautiful living walls, vertical gardens and unique planters for your home!

i live in a small house with a small yard. my home only gets sun in the front yard, in the morning.  so, i started researching how to create a small garden for my sunny front yard withouth messing with  my grass.  i have a patio, a fence and a small concrete walkway.  i needed to find a way to grow edibles in containers in these spaces...
+ i wanted them to look cool!

i found some great (out of the box) inspiration!  i want to share with you...

Au Naturel

curious in nature

designers today are taking inspiration from organic materials and natural forms.  nature's canvas has the most magnificent colors, textures and shapes.  use them literally or as inspiration.  one single fallen leaf can give you the most amazing pallette.  mother nature is my design muse!
i have long had a passion for searching out rare and unexpected beauty.  i find beauty in the mundane.  i find beauty is a stone, a single piece of wood, folded paper...  keep a sharp eye.  become an explorer and collector of objects.  put them on display or in a little box, simply enjoy their beauty.  train your eye.  beauty will start to jump out at you.  look out!

w o o d: repurposed

beautifully aged.  longevity.  history.

the first 50+ years... in service as horse fencing
the next 50+ years... your family centered dining table

a big part of sustainable design is repurposing and reusing.  i love the thought of a material having a past life.  it is deep with character and history.

the longevity of wood is testimony to its sustainability.  i believe wood gets more beautiful with age. (i believe we all get more lovely with age.)
sustain has a collection of reclaimed products in the showroom.  beautiful flooring full of character, raw materials from local salvage companies and mills.  come visit the showroom and take a look... touch it, smell it.
remember... tell them jessica sent you.

current obsession:  these two book matched walnut slabs brought to us by mt. adams lumber.  in showroom now...

here are examples of some salvaged wood we have available... use your imagination.
or let me help you design something amazing.  xo,  jessica

i  have found some images from around the web, design catalogs and green blogs i love.  here are my favorite examples of reclaimed, repurposed wood being used in modern design.

do not be afraid of color!

find beauty,
it is all around you.

trend alert:: clay plaster walls

hello  friends and fellow design lovers.
with this blog, i plan to bring my spirit and sense of style to the products and services of sustain eco-interiors.
i will explore products, inspiration and design.  i think visually, admire unexpected beauty, and value quality. i want to show that "green" products can be very on trend, modern and simple.  let's see how it goes.
jessica

my current obsession:

American Clay Earth Plaster

american clay earth plasters are a natural, environmentally friendly way to finish any interior. non-toxic and made in the USA, these plasters are an alternative to cement, acrylic and lime plasters, offering superior color, richness, texture and depth not found with other finishes. see what our different styles have to offer: loma bestows a charming, rustic feel with matte colors and organic surfaces; porcelina's smooth surface and complex colors mimic the highly polished, opulent marble of the old world; marittimo's soft colors and speckled sheen shimmer like the ocean; and enjarre offers a rugged, earthen look in a single-coat plaster. from all points of the globe to all design projects, american clay has you covered.
american clay has no VOCs, is made from 72-percent post-industrial recycled content from stone quarries, is a an extremely durable surface, ships dry for less weight, is made in the U.S. with natural dyes, and has the lowest carbon footprint of any commercial wall product.

before i walked into sustain eco-interiors, i knew nothing of clay plaster.  i was taken away with the texture of the showrooms walls.  i learned that the walls were all hand troweled by owner heith england.  they are truly beautiful.
clay plaster is my current obbsession, i cannot stop collecting contemporary images of plaster walls.  i would like to share some with you.

my love affair begins...

my favorite finish is one that looks a lot like concrete in a graphite color.
(images found in various design magazines+ blogs and pinterest).
these looks below can be created with american clay plasters.  sustain has artisans that can reproduce these looks in your home or business.  wow!
transform your space!
come see us... and remember, tell them jessica sent you.  :)

i found this images in my newest crate and barrel catalog.  plaster is a timeless, traditional material.   + a HOT trend right now.

typically i thought of plaster as being very traditional, european with a tuscan feel.  this too can be modern.  take a look.

great design with plaster walls.  i hope you find inspiration and begin to notice the beautifully natural walls around you.
